Dr. Schafer managed more than 250 projects involving the environmental aspects of mining. His projects have included:
prediction, prevention, and control of acid drainage and metal leaching (AD/ML);
mine closure and reclamation of waste rock, tailings, underground and open pit mines, and leached ore piles;
process solution decommissioning; prediction of pit lake chemistry;
baseline studies and permitting;
and groundwater and vadose zone monitoring programs.
He has worked globally and has extensive regulatory experience in the US including Nevada, Montana, South Dakota, South Carolina, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Utah and Washington. Capabilities include:
